Aboriginal Tourism
Aboriginal Tourism Association of British
Columbia (ATBC)
In partnership with the Province of British
Columbia,
Tourism BC,
Aboriginal Business Canada and
Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, the
Aboriginal Tourism Association of British Columbia has initiated a project to direct the future
development and marketing of Aboriginal tourism in
British Columbia. The overall objective of this initiative is
twofold: first, to create a realistic and achievable
'blueprint' for Aboriginal tourism product
development over the long term with special
consideration given to the 2010 Olympic and
Paralympic Winter Games; and second, to develop a
business plan for ATBC
that will support the growth of the Aboriginal
tourism industry in British Columbia.
2007 First Citizens' Forum
Held each year since
2002, the First Citizens' Forums bring
together provincial government leadership,
Aboriginal political leaders (First Nations
Summit, Union of BC Indian Chiefs, Métis
Nation B.C. and the United Native Nations),
Aboriginal community members and
representatives of other Aboriginal
organizations.
The theme of the 2007
Forum was Aboriginal Cultural Tourism.
Delegates engaged in dialogue about the
future of the sector, examining the growing
opportunities and challenges. Topics focused
on ATBC’s Blueprint Strategy, the 2008 North
American Indigenous Games, and the growing
participation of Aboriginal communities in
the 2010 Winter Games, as presented by the
Four Host First Nations Society.
