Coach Development

About 98 percent of the 5,000 coaches registered with the Coaches Association of BC are volunteers. Provincial support for coaching is focused on providing them with the resources they need and promoting certification for community and regional coaches.

SportsFunder Lottery funds are directed to National Coaching Certification Program certification and/or education courses for community and school coaches. About 500 British Columbia coaches benefit from this program each year.

The Coaches Association of BC distributes this funding to the agencies hosting courses (such as provincial sport organizations and educational institutions) to offset coaches’ course registration fees.

Special emphasis is placed on providing additional educational and certification opportunities for coaches in outlying regions, female coaches, Aboriginal coaches and coaches of Paralympic sports and young children.
