Using Stoves and Campfires

Careless use of campfires is a leading cause of forest fires, which threaten the lives of people and wildlife, destroy timber and other forest resources, and cost millions of dollars to extinguish.

It is essential that you use extreme care with stoves and campfires at recreation sites.

The Wildfire Act describes your legal obligations when using fire for several purposes, including in campfires. The Wildfire Act makes it clear that it is your responsibility to make sure your use of fire does not lead to wildfires.

You may use an outdoor stove for heating or cooking when there is no ban or restrictions in place as long as you follow specific regulations about safe use of the stove.

Campfires are also permitted at recreation sites under similar rules.

There are strict limits on the use of fireworks on or within 300 metres of forest land or grassland.
