Recreation Sites and Trails

Crown Land - A Definition

Crown land is land or land covered by water (such as rivers and lakes) that is owned by the provincial government.  The vast majority of British Columbia's land area - fully 94 percent - is Crown land.

When an individual or organization wishes to use Crown land for specific purpose, the Province may agree to enter into a tenure agreement to lease the land for a certain purpose over a set period of time.  The British Columbia government may also enter into a partnership agreement for the management and maintenance of Crown land.

Recreation sites and trails are an example of one use of Crown land that may by covered by a partnership agreement.
