Recreation Sites and Trails Glossary

Crown land - Land owned by the Province of British Columbia.  The vast majority of British Columbia's land area (94 percent) is Crown land.

Crown land tenure - An agreement between the provincial government and an individual or organization to lease Crown land for a particular use.  A tenure can be for any of a wide range of uses, and is for a specific period of time.

Recreation site - Crown land outside parks that has been designated for recreational use.

Special events use - Group activities or events of an exclusive nature taking place on a recreation site or trail.
