Coast Region

Alert: 20 Mile Bay Recreation site in the Chilliwack district is closed until further notice.

Alert:  South Coast District The road to Snow Creek Recreation The access to Snow Creek from Highway 4 was repaired last week, and is now open to rough 2 wheel drive.  (Posted July 14, 2008) Locator Map [173 k].

NOTICE:  The new landslide in the Chehalis valley is very unstable.  Please DO NOT enter into the area, you may become part of the next wave.  The road access into the area is blocked by the Ministry of Forests and Range for public safety.  There is significant activity by heavy machinery in the Chehalis Lake South campsite.  This is to prevent a further potential disaster downstream.  Please stay away for now.  For more information and pictures please go to the Chilliwack Forest District website: http://www.for.gov.bc.ca/dck/Topics/Chehalis_Lake/Chehalis_Lake_Index.html (Posted December 17, 2007)

Alert: Blackie's trail on (Nahmint Lake area on South Island, Vancouver Island) leads to a cabin on the beach.  Due to storm damage this trail is closed until further notice.  The only access to Blackie's Beach is by boat. (posted August 21, 2007)

Alert: Hideaway (Mile 36.5) in Upper Squamish and Spetch Creek recreation sites are closed indefinitely. (posted August 2, 2007)

Alert: Please note the following roads in the Powell River area will be closed for the Plutonic Power Project until further notice:

  • Rainy Day Lake main Line
  • 3rd lake main line closed during the week (open weekends)
  • Top of Stillwater Main closed

Alert:  Discovery Coast District - Road to Winter Harbour.
The bridge on the road from Holberg that leads to a federal radar installation then follows the company mainline to Winter Harbour has been condemned to all vehicles. The detour that traffic has been using through WFP camp at Holberg is the return road to the dump for off-highway trucks. This is a potentially dangerous situation as recreation traffic pulling boats en route to Winter Harbour are going uphill while the loaded logging trucks are making their way downhill. If you are going to use this detour please follow logging trucks or wait till off-hours to travel the road. (posted July 17, 2007)

Alert: Skwellepil Creek in the Chilliwack area is closed due to road access being cut off by washout on main access road. (closed until further notice). (posted April 1, 2007)

Alert:  Sarita Lake Campsite has been closed permanently because the site has been completely wiped out by storm damage. (posted April 1, 2007)

Alert:  Meager Creek trail in Squamish is closed indefinitely.

Alert:  Lizzie Lake in the Squamish District is closed indefinitely.

Alert:  Spetch Creek in the Squamish District is closed indefinitely.

Alert: Cayoosh Creek in the Cascades district is permanently closed as flooding has damaged this site beyond repair.

Northern Interior Region

Alert:  Bear Mountain Recreation Site will be closed at the Bear Mountain Nordic Ski Area and Radar Lake Interpretive Trail area for Mountain Pine Beetle management. Mountain Pine Beetle infected trees will be felled and rehabilitation of the site will commence July 19 2008 to August 3 2008 at the Bear Mountain Site and August 3 to September 1, 2008 at the Radar Lake area. If harvesting and reforestation work is occurring or equipment is on site at these locations no admittance by unauthorized persons is permitted.  Notices will be placed at these locations during the time of operations. Alert:  Road access to Keynton Lake Recreation site from east (Kispiox) is closed until further notice. Road access from the west (Kitwanga) remains open. (Posted July 9, 2008)

Alert: Little Fish Recreation site access - the bridge at 7km on the Mitten Main (3km south of the recreation site) is in an UNSAFE condition for any use and extreme caution should be exercised (the bridge is not currently closed, but should be considered closed until further notice to industrial traffic and recreation traffic as well).  The site can still be accessed from Cranberry Junction (Hwy 37) and is 33km on the Mitten Main from that side. Alert:  There is no access into Pitoney Lake Recreation site as the Forest Service road is washed out - Canoe access is possible.  Contact Prince George District for information 250-614-7400. (posted June 3, 2008)

Temporary Closure Notice: Exstew River Recreation Site and the Exstew River access road (approximately 30kms West of Terrace) from approximately 0.5 km. north of Highway 16, are closed to the public, including all motor vehicles and all terrain vehicles, from 10:00 hours, Monday May 12, 2008 to 10:00 hours Tuesday May 20, 2008. This order is made pursuant to Section 58 Subsection (1)(b) of the Forest and Range Practices Act and is effective May 12, 2008. (posted May 12, 2008).

Alert: Road access to Maroon Mountain Recreation trail, north of Terrace, now ends at Hall Creek approximately 1.5 kilometres from the trailhead. A foot bridge has been installed for continued pedestrian access to the trailhead (updated May, 2008)

Alert:  Cheslatta Falls Recreation site in Vanderhoof is closed - this site is unsafe as the banks have been undermined by the fast flow of water. (posted June 28, 2007)

Alert:  Lund Lake recreation site in the Nadina Skeena Stikine District is closed until further notice because of a windthrow event and is considered unsafe. (posted 2005)

Southern Interior Region - East

Alert:  The Horsethief Forest Service road to Lake of the Hanging Glacier trail is impassable by vehicle at the 49.2 km mark due to a snow & debris avalanche (and washout). There is a decent turn-around parking spot immediately before the site and foot travel is not a problem adding perhaps another km or so of easy hiking to the trailhead. Good news is the holes in the bridge at 42km have been repaired. (Posted July 10, 2008)

Alert: Please be aware that a storm event on July 1, 2008 resulted in flash floods in several sections along the trail, in particular the first bridge crossing which may have been compromised.  (Posted July 8, 2008)

Alert: Nevertouch Lake Recreation site (east of Big White Ski Resort) in the Kootenay Boundary District is closed until further notice due to wildfire damage to the site.  The site is scheduled to be rebuilt in 2008. (updated May, 2008)

Alert:  Goat River Canyon Recreation site (near Creston) is closed until further notice due to extensive blowdown. The site is schedule to be rebuilt in 2008. (updated May, 2008)

Alert:  The Buchanan Lookout building (near Kaslo) housing an interpretive display, is closed until further notice due to structural issues.  The road to the lookout remains open.  The lookout catwalk also remains open so visitors can still enjoy the great views from that vantage point. The Lookout is scheduled to be rebuilt in 2008. (updated May, 2008).

Southern Interior Region - West

Alert: Harper Creek Road which takes you to Dunn Peak trail in the Kamloops district will be closed from August 7 - 14, 2008 for bridge replacement. (posted July 31, 2008).

Alert:  North Barriere/Vermilion Creek recreation site will be open for the August Long weekend.  (Posted July 14, 2008)

Alert:  Lost Horse Lake - site closed until further notice - the road is washed out.

Alert: The Forest Service Road access to Whiskey Flats recreation site in the Quesnel area is inaccessible because of slides.  Contact Central Cariboo Forest District for information 250-398-4326.  (posted June 3, 2008)

Alert:  The culvert on the Forest Service road accessing Lost Horse Lake in the Kamloops District has been washed out.  Please do not travel this road until this notice is removed.  Alternately check with the Ministry of Forests and Range Kamloops District Office for information at 250-371-6500. (posted June 3, 2008)

Alert: Titetown Lake crossing in the Quesnel area is impassable without a boat (posted June 14, 2007)

Alert: Maud recreation site and Pelican recreation site in the Quesnel area has extensive Mountain Pine Beetle damage.

Alert: Prairie Creek recreation site in the Central Cariboo has extensive Mountain Pine Beetle damage.
