Heritage Branch to Lead Strategy Stakeholder Workshops

Why is heritage important to you?  What challenges and opportunities face heritage in your community?

Heritage Branch invites you to participate in a facilitated workshop to contribute to the provincial heritage strategy.  Your ideas and comments will help to identify strategic objectives and ways of achieving them.  Space is limited, so please register early.  Contact  250-356-1432 or email heritage@gov.bc.ca to register.

2008 BC Heritage Award Presented

Merritt resident Murphy Shewchuk has received the British Columbia Heritage Award for 2008.

The annual award, which recognizes a British Columbian who has made an outstanding contribution to heritage, was presented by Langley MLA Mary Polak on behalf of Tourism, Sport and the Arts Minister Stan Hagen at the annual Heritage BC awards ceremony held in Langley.

Heritage Branch Releases New Social Studies Teaching Unit

A new grade 10 Social Studies unit has been posted on the Lesson Plan page of the Heritage Branch website.  Developed in partnership with the Historic Places Initiative, The Amazing Heritage Challenge offers a complete teacher's guide to help students identify buildings in their communities that they believe have significant heritage value.

2008 National Historica Fair a Capital Celebration

The city of Victoria will host the 2008 National Historica Fair next year as part of BC2008 – the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the founding of the colony of British Columbia.
