Archaeological Bulk Upload Tool

Information on archaeological sites has been collected for a variety of reasons and in a number of ways. It is important that the British Columbia Archaeological Site Inventory contain all known, protected site locations to improve the chances of avoiding or properly managing impacts to these sites.

To form part of the inventory, these records must meet minimum content and format standards. These minimum standards ensure that enough information is contained in the site record to form a basis for appropriate archaeological resource management action. Minimum standards focus on knowing the size and location of the site, the accuracy of this spatial information and a cursory description of the site type and contents. The Branch accepts these records if:

  • The site location and type has been recently confirmed by field observation
  • They are for sites automatically protected by the Heritage Conservation Act, Section 13.

First Nations find it useful to have site records incorporated into the provincial inventory because this information is used for a variety of planning and resource management purposes.

More information on the information and format requirements for the Archaeological Bulk Upload tool can be found in Information Bulletin Number 19 Minimum Content and Format Requirements for Recording Archaeological Sites.
